Achakzai's Party Submits Papers, ECP Drops Accounts Case

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dropped the case concerning the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party's (PkMAP) statement of accounts, one of three cases pending against the party of Mehmood Khan Achakzai, and fixed the remaining two cases for hearing on October 6. According to a delisting notice issued by the electoral body, the two remaining cases - one concerning PkMAP's amended constitution and observations of the Election Commission, and the other concerning the non-conduct of intra-party elections - had been fixed for hearing on September 24 but were delisted due to the "non-availability of the bench". Both cases have now been fixed for hearing on October 6 at 10am.

When asked, an ECP official said that the case concerning PkMAP's accounts was dropped after some related documents were submitted to the Election Commission a few days ago. The Election Commission had expressed reservations and objections in relation to its account details. Achakzai is a prominent political figure and heads the opposition alliance, Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP)).

Separately, the Election Commission has recently granted approval to launch the Legal Case Attestation Module. This initiative aims to facilitate the public by enabling individuals from remote areas to submit online requests for copies of the Commission's decisions and other related documents. Moreover, an ECP statement said that applicants would be able to obtain receipts for their requests and check their status periodically through the system.

To further enhance the monitoring system, the Chief Election Commissioner has also constituted a committee headed by the Special Secretary, which has been tasked with completing its work and submitting a report within 15 days. The approval was given to the module during a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, who was briefed on the Data Centre, the Legal Case Management System's Attestation Module, and the Monitoring and Reporting System.
