Anna Faris opens up on navigating religion with 'Religious' son Jack

deeply personal conversations she has with her 14-year-old son, Jack, about religion, a topic where the two see things quite differently.  Appearing on Chelsea Handler's Dear Chelsea podcast on Thursday, August 20, Faris, who shares Jack with ex-husband Chris Pratt, described her son as unusually steady for his age, "He's as solid as a tugboat, emotionally. He just doesn't get easily jarred.

He handles situations really well." That steadiness extends to how he approaches faith, which Faris said is an area where he's grown notably devout despite her own upbringing without religion.  "I didn't grow up with religion," she explained to Handler.  "He's asked me to accept Jesus Christ... and I told him that I would do anything for him, including this, but it's still going to take a whole lot of long conversations." Faris clarified that those "long conversations" often take the shape of her gently pushing back on ideas tied to conservative political viewpoints sometimes associated with certain strains of Christianity, and said she's been impressed by how thoughtfully Jack engages with the questions she raises.  "I try to challenge him," she said.  "I'm like, 'Do you think it's a luxury that you get to be pro-life?'...

He's like, 'Maybe.'"  She offered another example: "I'll say, 'So, what do you think of this mega pastor that's kind of a grifter?' He's like, 'Oh, mega pastors are the worst.'"  She added that she's ultimately grateful for where these conversations have led him, saying she's "appreciative that he's examining religion the way he is in terms of recognizing hypocrisy." Faris, who married cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021, has generally kept Jack out of the spotlight but has spoken warmly about him in the past.  In a March 2025 interview with PEOPLE, she reflected on his grounded nature, saying, "He's always had such a solid anchor.

I don't know where, being a kid in Hollywood, he got that. I don't know how he got so down-to-earth, but I'm really grateful."  More recently, at the Scary Movie premiere in June, she told Entertainment Tonight she felt comfortable bringing him along given how perceptive he's become.  "It turns out, he knows everything. He knows way more than I thought he did, so I actually feel comfortable bringing him here.".
