At least 14 newborns died after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), rescue sources said on Wednesday.
Rescue sources said the fire started after an air-conditioner compressor exploded inside the nursery at the hospital situated in the federal capital.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and engaged in frantic efforts to extinguish the blaze and evacuate other infants.
