Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Sunday that cooperation with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was confined strictly to parliament, noting that no formal political alliance exists between the two parties at the grassroots level. He clarified that the current political arrangement remains limited to the parliamentary sphere and cannot be characterized as a broader political alliance.

The JUI-F chief expressed these views while speaking at the residence of veteran journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami in Lahore on Sunday. Addressing the complex issue of relations between the federation and the provinces, Fazlur Rehman stated that the matter is intrinsically linked to the National Finance Commission (NFC). He emphasized that the Constitution permits an increase in the provincial share under the NFC award but does not allow any reduction.

"When there is a fire in the house, this is not the time to talk about division," the JUI-F chief remarked, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation across the country. He maintained that political stability is vital for addressing the multiple crises currently confronting the state.

Furthermore, Fazlur Rehman claimed that the writ of the government had significantly weakened in three provinces and alleged that the federal government harbours intentions to take control of the provinces' mineral resources. Several senior journalists and prominent political figures were also present on the occasion.
