KARAK: A police constable was martyred and another sustained injuries when unidentified armed men opened fire on a police mobile van during routine patrolling near Shankai Dam within the limits of Sabirabad Police Station on Wednesday. Constable Zafran was martyred in the attack, while Constable Muhammad Imtiaz sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital. According to police, the incident occurred when the mobile van was on routine patrol late Tuesday night.

Following the attack, law enforcement agencies launched a search and strike operation in the area to apprehend the assailants. District Police Officer (DPO) Karak, Imran Khan, rushed to the scene along with additional police personnel upon receiving information about the incident.

Police cordoned off the entire area and initiated a comprehensive search operation for the arrest of the attackers. Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of martyred Constable Zafran was offered at Police Lines Karak with full official honors.

Later, the body of the martyred constable was shifted to his native area under strict official protocol, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with local customs and traditions.
