NBC anchor Joseph Olmo surprises with exit, keeping future plans under wraps

NBC News anchor Joseph Olmo surprised viewers with a live announcement after a 10-year career in broadcast journalism on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Olmo, who has been associated with NBC 4 for Washington D.C. for over seven years, covering the DC area since 2023, announced his exit.

"Well, before we go tonight, I've got just one more story for you," said Olmo at the opening of the broadcast. Reflecting on the journey, Olmo added, "For the better part of a decade, which includes three thrilling years right here at NBC4, I have had one remarkable job. You can cover the world, but nothing compares to being a local news reporter."

After keeping the viewers hooked, he revealed the decision. "So after almost 10 years in broadcasting, tomorrow night I will hit the streets of the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia area) one final time as a local news reporter."

However, Olmo kept his next plans under wraps, yet said goodbye while teasing viewers with something new, saying, "Knowing anything about me, you will not be surprised, my friends." Olmo previously covered transportation for CW affiliate DC News Now.
