On September 4, a user posted a graphic claiming that the central bank was withdrawing the Rs10 banknote from circulation this month.

"The Government of Pakistan has decided to discontinue the Rs10 banknote," the post reads. Identical claims have also been shared on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. The Rs10 banknote is not being withdrawn from circulation, the State Bank of Pakistan has confirmed.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the State Bank said: "State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) categorically refutes reports circulating on social media regarding the purported discontinuation of the Rs10 banknote and the last date for its exchange." The central bank clarified that it had submitted a proposal for the introduction of a new banknote series, but the proposal was still under consideration by the Federal Cabinet.
