Sustainable Political Stability Hinges On Constitutional Supremacy: Fazl

SUKKUR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Monday declared that sustainable political stability is only possible through constitutional supremacy and warned that legislation against the Constitution and institutional interference are pushing the country towards a deeper crisis. He was addressing a press conference and a joint meeting of the JUI-F Sindh Provincial Majlis-e-Amla and organising committees of the Aman-e-Aalam Gathering 2027 at Jamia Islamia, Larkana. The meeting was chaired by JUI-F Sindh Ameer Maulana Sain Abdul Qayoom Halejvi.

Fazl said the country's political, economic, constitutional and administrative crises could only be resolved through constitutional supremacy, real democracy, supremacy of Parliament, provincial autonomy and practical solutions to public problems. "State and government affairs cannot run outside constitutional limits. Without the rule of law, neither stability nor democracy is possible," he said.

The JUI-F chief reiterated that his party does not recognise the 2018 and 2024 elections. "We demand that no institution should interfere in future elections," he said, adding that no institution should meddle in the democratic process. Fazl also warned against the talk of new provinces, saying the issue kept resurfacing but Pakistan currently had neither the environment nor the preparation for it, and in their absence, it would only lead to destruction.

He demanded full implementation of the 18th Amendment and said all provinces, including Sindh, must get their due and fair share of powers and resources. The distribution of powers between the federation and provinces, he added, must be based on mutual trust, constitutional requirements and the national interest. He also criticised the practice of making non-political people speak on critical issues. Provincial General Secretary Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro briefed the meeting on preparations for the Aman-e-Aalam Gathering 2027.
