Gigi Hadid is showing her support for Macklemore amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his removal from Ed Sheeran's U.S. tour. The supermodel took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, September 15, to send a clear message about where she stands. In solidarity with the rapper, she reposted his recent statement and added a short but pointed message of her own, writing, "@macklemore we stand with you."
Zayn Malik's former girlfriend also shared the words "Free Palestine" above the American artist's statement. Her repost came following the controversy where Macklemore was dropped from Sheeran's North American Loop tour due to his pro-Palestinian remarks onstage. After he shared his lengthy statement on Monday, September 14, explaining his perspective, the Perfect singer also broke his silence to address the tour change, and Hadid amplified the rapper's message.
For the unversed, during his September 4 performance at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, where he also performed Hind's Hall, Macklemore's comments prompted backlash and calls for him to be removed from the tour. Sheeran, in his separate statement, said the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter and venue stakeholders rather than by him, adding that he had tried to find a resolution. He also said he prefers to keep his own shows politically neutral while expressing sorrow over the conflict.
Notably, Hadid is not the only public figure to react to the controversy. Following Macklemore's removal, several other artists connected to Sheeran's tour also withdrew from upcoming dates in solidarity with him, including Billie Eilish's brother Finneas, Lukas Graham, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe.
