GTA 6 Locked at 30 FPS as Rockstar Delays 60 FPS Commitment

Rockstar Games, after 13 long years, released the 'Extended Look' gameplay of Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix, captivating millions of gaming enthusiasts globally. With the launch less than three months away, Rockstar Games is eyeing only 30 fps, as the Netflix premiere showed on August 27, 2026. GTA 6's 27-minute exclusive footage revealed details of gameplay mechanics: combat, open world, story cutscenes, and more. The gameplay footage of GTA 6 was completely captured on PlayStation 5.

Amid the buzz-worthy release, one thing that worried the gaming community is a recent claim by a YouTuber who visited the Rockstar North studio. Content creator Davy Jones claimed that GTA 6 is currently running at 30fps on consoles during the development phase. Rockstar Games lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson reportedly told Davy Jones that 'during this development period, the consoles are running the game at 30 fps' - or at least for now.

It is still necessary to consult with the technical team to find out if there will be a 60 fps option at launch or in the future. Anyway, at this point, it runs strictly at 30 fps. At the moment, the extended gameplay on Netflix shows GTA 6 running at a stable 30fps with no noticeable drops.

Given past instances, a 30 fps mode at launch would not surprise many, since Rockstar did the same with its previous open-world titles. The real test, however, will come when GTA 6 officially launches on November 19, 2026.
