Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman has stated that the party's ongoing protest movement is centred on public issues, particularly electricity and petrol prices, agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), taxation and the rising cost of living, clarifying that Jamaat-e-Islami is not seeking to form a political alliance.

Speaking to journalists at the Jamaat-e-Islami headquarters Mansoora, he said the objective of protests was to build pressure on the government to provide relief to the public, rather than to pursue political confrontation. He noted that electricity and petrol prices have a direct impact on inflation, as higher energy costs drive up the prices of other goods and services.

He questioned the government's reliance on petroleum levies and other charges for revenue generation, arguing that the burden ultimately falls on ordinary citizens. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also raised concerns over the government's policies regarding sugar, calling on authorities to clarify the financial implications of recent import and export decisions.

Referring to ongoing demonstrations in Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi, he warned that further actions, including a nationwide shutter-down strike after 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, could be considered if the government fails to address public demands.
