Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's former wife, Jemima Goldsmith, has urged the UK government to step in and break its silence over the alleged treatment being meted out to her ex-husband. Jemima, who shares two sons with the former prime minister, wrote in a post on X, questioning how much longer Britain will remain silent on the matter.

Imran's family and party have long raised concerns over his health, with the Supreme Court finally issuing an order last week for him to be transferred to a private hospital from Adiala Jail. However, government authorities shifted him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), a public hospital, citing security concerns before returning him to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after a medical board clearance.

Imran, 73, has been incarcerated in Rawalpindi since August 2023, convicted in a string of cases that he and his party maintain are politically motivated following his ouster in 2022. Jemima referred to the PTI founder as the father of Kasim Khan and Suleiman Khan, stating that he has endured three years of solitary confinement and severe penalisation by his political opponents.

The British socialite added that for nearly 10 months his family has been denied contact with him, along with a lack of access to books, lawyers, and doctors. She noted that under the UN's Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture, yet he has faced this treatment for three years.

Jemima noted that Pakistan's Supreme Court has ordered comprehensive medical treatment and regular family visits, yet those orders are being defied. She reminded the UK government of Imran's deep ties to Britain, including his studies at Oxford University and his philanthropic work, urging London to speak out unequivocally and demand that Pakistan uphold his fundamental human rights.
