Kp Assembly Slams Mistreatment Of Kp Cm In Lahore

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday passed a condemnation resolution over the alleged mistreatment of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi in Lahore a day before, calling it an attack on provincial autonomy and constitutional rights and demanding a transparent and impartial inquiry by the federal government. The session, chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, also saw protests from treasury members over the health and court cases involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and the party's planned protest on September 27.

Provincial Minister for Law Aftab Alam moved the resolution, which was adopted by a majority vote. It stated that the incident involving the KP chief minister was "extremely regrettable, condemnable and alarming", during which he was allegedly forcibly put into a police van by the Punjab Police, separated from his security and later dropped on a road without security. Earlier, following the suspension of the routine agenda, the law minister told the House that a "shameful and humiliating" attitude had been adopted towards the KP chief minister in Lahore.

He said "This incident must be raised forcefully at the national level as it is a major attack on Pakistan's unity and solidarity," he said. Provincial Minister for Housing Dr Amjad Ali said there was no precedent for the treatment meted out to the elected chief minister by the Punjab government. Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi said the chief minister had gone to Lahore to offer condolences to the family of a martyred worker but was stopped on the roads.

MPA Muhammad Sajjad termed the treatment of the KP CM in Lahore humiliating and said the matter should not be limited to a resolution but raised comprehensively at the national level. Provincial Minister Arif Ahmadzai said the treatment meted out to the KP chief minister in Lahore was unacceptable.
