Matt Cord, Philadelphia 76ers public announcer, has announced his return to the franchise for one last season. Cord revealed this on 93.3 WMMR on Wednesday morning. While explaining what influenced his decision to scrap his retirement plans for one more season, he said, "They made a trade for Jaylen Brown on July 1, and then on July 24, LeBron James signed with the 76ers."
Cord announced his retirement in March through an X (formerly called Twitter) post, stating that the 76ers' 2025-26 campaign would be his last on the assignment. "After 28 years as the PA announcer for the 76ers I'm officially retiring at the end of the season," said Cord at the time.
Cord had developed his own distinctive style over the course of 28 years, from announcing the 76ers' starting centre as "Joel The Process Embiid" to calling buckets for "Allen Liiiiiii-verson." The 76ers shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) and captioned it, "The VOICE IS BACK."
Cord's voice has also been featured in NBA 2K video games. He currently hosts a midday show on the Philadelphia radio station 93.3 WMMR, entertaining thousands of loyal listeners across the region.
