The Royal Family is privately reeling with some upsetting news as fears grow over the monarch's "deteriorating" health. Europe's oldest ruler, King Harald is currently on sick leave as his son, Crown Prince Haakon, acts as regent. Two weeks ago the Norwegian King, 89, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of his rare blood condition called haemolytic anaemia.
However, as the royals stick together in this tough time, the Norwegian Palace shared a statement on Sunday about the health of King Harald. "His Majesty The King's condition worsened over the weekend," the statement began. "His Majesty is receiving antibiotics for a bloodstream bacterial infection and has responded to this treatment."
It added, "The situation is stable. His Majesty will remain at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and is on sick leave until further notice." Meanwhile, the members of the royal family are continuing with their routine as usual and supporting each other with a united front.
As Crown Princess Mette-Marit recovers from her lung surgery, Princess Ingrid Alexandra is also back home from university as an exchange student to be closer to her mother. It is understood that having family close by will be a source of emotional comfort as fears for the well-being of King Harald continue to grow.
