Patrick Clancy, the father of three children who died at the hands of their mother Lindsay Clancy, has had his now-deleted Reddit account shed new light on the mental state of his then-wife years before she killed their children. Posts linked to the account offer a glimpse into the family's struggles as Lindsay's mental health deteriorated after the birth of their third child. The posts, uncovered after Lindsay's murder trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month, show Patrick discussing her treatment and trying to make sense of what was happening at home. According to the New York Post, he wrote about Lindsay being prescribed Zoloft after initially experiencing relatively mild symptoms. As things worsened, the couple sought further help, with Patrick's posts touching on medications, doctors, and the difficulty of finding effective treatment.
On January 24, 2023, Lindsay killed the couple's three children - 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan - inside their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home, and later admitted to the killings. The jury remained divided on whether Lindsay was criminally responsible. Her lawyers argued she suffered from postpartum psychosis and was overmedicated, while prosecutors maintained she planned the killings knowingly. After nearly six weeks of testimony and over 38 hours of deliberations, the jury failed to reach a consensus, with 11 jurors supporting a finding of not criminally responsible due to insanity, resulting in a mistrial. Patrick has since publicly defended efforts to seek help for his former wife, and while the Reddit posts do not settle the ongoing debate over her state of mind, they indicate that concerns about her condition existed long before the tragedy.
