The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday returned a review petition filed by the federal government challenging its order to shift incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan to Islamabad's Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Sources said the SC Registrar's Office raised objections to the petition, which was filed by the Islamabad chief commissioner. The review petition will be filed again after addressing the Registrar's Office objections, they added.
The legal battle surrounding the medical care and prison conditions of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder has seen continuous developments in recent weeks, with the judiciary frequently dealing with petitions from both defense and state counsels.
Legal experts note that once the administrative objections raised by the apex court's registrar are removed, the federal government is expected to re-file the plea to contest the medical transfer directive.
