RAHIM YAR KHAN: Seven wedding guests died while over 60 sustained injuries in an accident on the National Highway on Sunday. The accident occurred when a speeding trailer ran over motorcycle-riding members of a wedding party before crashing into a tractor-trolley carrying other guests. The accident occurred late at night as the wedding party was returning from Palosha to Mouza Laji War on motorcycles and a tractor-trolley.

According to initial information, trailer TLJ-488 went out of control due to brake failure and ran over motorcycle-riding wedding guests before colliding with the tractor-trolley. Seven people, including three women, succumbed to their injuries. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Asghar, Muhammad Akram, Mazhar Abbas, Tahira Bibi, Ghulam Jannat Bibi, and 12-year-old Shehla, among others.

More than 60 wedding guests were injured, including women and children. At least 54 injured people were initially shifted to THQ Hospital Mianwali Qureshian and later to Sheikh Zayed Hospital through Rescue 1122, Edhi ambulances, and private vehicles. Several injured victims were reported to be in critical condition, while 9 were discharged after initial medical treatment.

Rescue teams, along with senior district officials, reached the scene and supervised relief and rescue operations. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and conveyed her condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families. The deputy commissioner, SP Investigation, assistant commissioner, and other senior officials also reached THQ Mianwali Qureshian during the night and monitored the emergency response.

The funeral prayers of 5 of the deceased were offered collectively in the Head Laji War area. The deceased were later laid to rest in the local graveyard.
