Carol McGiffin has taken another dig at her former show, Loose Women, suggesting the struggling programme should be axed. The presenter, 64, was a panellist on the popular show for more than two decades but left in 2023 due to 'contract issues' with bosses.
Carol has now claimed that Loose Women has become boring after budget cuts stripped the show back to its 'bare bones.' Carol said: 'I left in 2023, it's a long time now, I left it behind. I don't want to be on TV anymore, I'm not cut out for it anymore...
It's boring now, there's no audience, they've cut it back to the bare bones. So what do you expect... maybe it's time to put it down.'
She went on to tell The Sun: 'It's done, it's over. I'm sure a lot of people still love to sit down and watch it, but not me.' Carol previously opened up about the decision to leave the show back in 2023 in her weekly column for Best Magazine.
The veteran broadcaster, who became a household name through her candid opinions on the daytime talk show, expressed that the current format lacks the energy it once possessed. Her comments have sparked a debate among fans of the long-running series, which has been a staple of British daytime television for years.
Industry analysts suggest that the shift in production values, often attributed to broader economic pressures on media houses, has impacted the viewer experience. While the network has not officially responded to McGiffin's latest remarks, the show continues to air daily.
McGiffin's departure in 2023 marked the end of an era for the programme. At the time, she cited a lack of flexibility in contract negotiations as the primary driver for her exit, noting that the environment had become increasingly restrictive for panellists.
Despite her harsh critique, McGiffin maintains that she holds no personal animosity toward her former colleagues. She simply feels that the creative direction of the show has drifted away from what made it a success in the first place.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, the future of traditional daytime talk shows remains a subject of intense scrutiny. Whether Loose Women will adapt to these criticisms or continue on its current path remains to be seen.
For now, McGiffin seems content with her decision to step away from the limelight, focusing on her personal life and other ventures outside of the television industry. Her fans, however, continue to miss her sharp wit and unfiltered commentary, which were hallmarks of her tenure on the show.
