Adviser to Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam said on Tuesday that following the National Action Plan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had its own Provincial Action Plan. "Chief minister does not, under any circumstances, heads the National Action Plan. Atta Tarar needs to be aware of the basic facts and information," he said in a statement while responding to the federal minister for information.
Muzzammil said that around 10 percent of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget had been allocated for security, while the province's security budget was significantly higher compared to other provinces. During the last three years, he said the security budget of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had increased from Rs65 billion to Rs190 billion. The adviser said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is spending the highest level of resources on security in the fight against terrorism.
He said Rs191.4 billion had been allocated for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, while the current police budget had increased by 41 percent compared to 2024-25. He said the operational budget of the police had increased from Rs15.1 billion to Rs30.2 billion in two years. As of September 22, he said Rs137.8 billion had already been released from the current police budget, which accounted for 79.2 percent of the total current police budget.
According to the finance adviser, 97.4 percent of the funds allocated under the police development budget had already been released. He added that expenditure on equipment, vehicles and machinery for the police had increased from Rs3.3 billion to Rs14.5 billion. He said that since 2024-25, approval had been granted for 3,050 new posts in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, increasing the sanctioned strength of the police force from 136,268 to 139,318 personnel.
He added that the risk allowance for police personnel had also been increased with effect from July 2026. Muzzammil said that before appearing on national media, the federal minister for information should ensure that his facts are correct.
