The Creative Arts Emmys have officially kicked off, and Saturday night already delivered plenty of reasons to celebrate - including a long-awaited Emmy win for Octavia Spencer and a double victory for Mariska Hargitay. The two-night ceremony, held at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater ahead of the Primetime Emmys on September 14, handed out awards across variety, reality and documentary/nonfiction categories. And some familiar favorites walked away with more than one trophy.
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, The Muppet Show, Love on the Spectrum, The Traitors, The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny and My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska Hargitay were among Saturday's biggest winners. Hargitay had an especially big night. Her emotional documentary about her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, earned two Emmys - for directing for a documentary/nonfiction program and outstanding documentary or nonfiction special. She'll also host the Primetime Emmys, making this quite the Emmy-season hat trick.
Spencer finally added an Emmy to her trophy shelf for narrating Lost Women of Alaska, while The Traitors host Alan Cumming continued his winning run in the reality TV host category. And there's more coming. Night two will hand out guest acting awards and several limited-series prizes.
Meanwhile, The Pitt enters the main Emmys as the top nominee with 25 nods, followed by Hacks with a comedy-record 24. The Emmy race is officially getting serious. Check out the complete winner list for night 1 below.
