The Gujranwala Division police has posted a dramatic, unprecedented reduction in serious violent and property-related crimes during the first eight and a half months of 2026, official statistics released by the Punjab Police revealed. A comprehensive comparative audit comparing crime figures from Jan 1 to Sept 14, 2025, with the corresponding period in 2026 demonstrates that Gujranwala alone accounted for a staggering reduction of 10,580 robbery cases.

A granular breakdown of major violent crime categories shows sharp drops across the board. Dacoity cases plummeted by 88 percent, while general robbery registered an 80 percent decline. Murder cases decreased by 36 percent, attempted murder dropped by 17 percent, kidnapping for ransom fell by 89 percent, and child abduction incidents fell by 51 percent.

Furthermore, cases involving physical injuries inflicted during armed robberies dropped by 69 percent, burglary cases declined by 72 percent, snatching and grabbing incidents fell by 53 percent, and offenses registered under Section 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) - pertaining to theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt, or restraint - saw a 51 percent decrease.

Car snatching plummeted by 90 percent, motorcycle snatching fell by 77 percent, and the snatching of other heavy and commercial motor vehicles dropped by 96 percent.
