Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounted for 49 percent of Pakistan's crude oil production in August 2026, while Sindh dominated natural gas production with a 62 percent share, according to the Pakistan Oil and Gas Exploration Activity Report for September 2026. The country's crude oil production stood at 68,600 barrels per day (bpd), up 10 percent year-on-year (YoY) but down five percent month-on-month (MoM).
Natural gas production increased eight percent year-on-year and one percent month-on-month to 3,008 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production rose 20 percent YoY and 7.0 percent MoM to 2,238 tonnes per day.
The province-wise breakdown showed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa contributed 49 percent of the country's crude oil production, followed by Sindh at 35 percent, Punjab at 15 percent, and Balochistan at one percent. Sindh accounted for 62 percent of natural gas production, followed by Balochistan at 20 percent, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 15 percent, and Punjab at three percent.
Exploration and development activities showed mixed trends in September 2026. Exploratory drilling increased to 7,270 metres from 1,608 metres in August, a MoM rise of 352 percent.
However, development drilling declined 57 percent to 3,587 metres from 8,409 metres in the preceding month. Seismic survey activity also increased during September.
Two-dimensional (2D) seismic acquisition rose to 32.03 line kilometres from 6.75 line kilometres in August, an increase of 375 percent. Three-dimensional (3D) seismic acquisition expanded 62 percent to 103.89 square kilometres from 64.20 square kilometres.
The report also recorded one dry well, Ishraq X-1, operated by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL).
