A police officer assigned to the Mir Raza Ali murder case investigation confessed before the judicial commission probing Raza's murder that the majority of investigation procedures, including the collection of the victim's mobile phone, smartwatch, CCTV footage, and the recording of witness statements, were conducted by other police officers instead of him.

During the proceedings before the Sindh High Court's judicial commission, headed by Justice Omar Sial, the first investigation officer of the case, Inspector Shabbir Lashari, admitted that Raza's mobile phone and smartwatch were secured by ASI Faisal Raheem on July 30 and July 31; however, Faisal provided these pieces of evidence on August 8. Justice Sial took exception to the conduct of the investigation officer and inquired whether the performance of this investigation would satisfy him if such a tragedy had happened to his own son.

The IO stated that ASI Faisal Raheem took custody of the phone on July 30 and told him that he sent Raza's phone to the Counter-Terrorism Department's unit for examination, returning the phone on August 8 without any report from the CTD. He stated that the memo regarding the seizure of Raza's phone was incorrect and he did not know about the CCTV footage concerning the witness who found Raza's phone.

He added that he did not prepare any seizure memo and that a CCTV video was provided to him by Inspector Arshad Javed and SHO Adeel Afzal. He admitted that he recorded 10 out of 33 witness statements, while the rest were recorded by Inspector Arshad Javed, although he signed all of them.

The commission observed that its primary purpose is fact-finding and uncovering lapses in the investigation to ensure transparency and justice.
