A significant progress has been made in the investigation into the incident involving a woman who was brought to Hamdard Hospital in Nazimabad for an alleged delivery, with police saying that her pregnancy could not be medically established after examination. According to police, an investigation committee probing the incident summoned the woman's husband, Rashid, as well as doctors and other relevant hospital officials to the Nazimabad Police Station. Statements of the persons concerned were recorded late at night as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The incident had initially emerged after the woman, identified as Zubia, wife of Rashid, was brought to the private hospital for delivery. According to the police, the woman was taken towards the operation theatre on the basis of an alleged pregnancy, but during the procedure, hospital staff discovered that there was no baby. The development triggered protests by the woman's family, who allegedly vandalised parts of the hospital following the incident. The matter subsequently came under police investigation.
The woman's medical examination was conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after the incident, and the medico-legal officer's report did not establish that she had been pregnant. The hospital administration, meanwhile, has maintained that the baby was not born during the delivery procedure. The administration's position, along with the statements of the woman, her husband, and hospital staff, is being examined by investigators. Police officials said all available evidence relating to the incident has been taken into custody.
This includes CCTV footage from the hospital as well as computerized records and other relevant documents. Investigators are examining the hospital's records to verify the woman's medical history and determine what information was available to hospital staff before she was taken to the operation theatre. According to preliminary findings shared by police, the woman was allegedly brought for maternity treatment, but no formal medical examination was conducted before she was transferred to the operation theatre.
