The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Foundation has signed a contract to build a 5-megawatt hydropower plant at the outfall of the Chashma nuclear power plant. The facility is expected to add about 30.66 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually to Pakistan's national grid starting September 2029.
The Foundation Hydel Power Plant Unit-05 (FHPP-05) will harness hydropower potential at the Chashma site, ensuring more efficient use of available water resources while expanding the foundation's renewable energy portfolio.
The contract was signed at the PAEC headquarters between the PAEC Foundation and a joint venture comprising China Ocean Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd., Ningbo Water Conservancy and Hydro Power Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., and Habib Rafique Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. This venture marks the PAEC Foundation's fifth hydropower project.
