Pakistan Secures $763 Million in Foreign Loans and Grants in July

Despite receiving lower bilateral and multilateral loans, Pakistan has secured a total of $763 million in foreign loans and grants in the first month (July 2026) against $694.5 million in the same month of the last financial year. The country has attracted increased foreign inflows in the shape of Naya Pakistan Certificates through conventional and Islamic modes, as it secured $344 million in July 2026 against $196.22 million received in the same month of the last financial year.

According to official data released by the Economic Affairs Division, total guaranteed loans from China stood at $146 million in the first month of the current fiscal year 2026-27. The country has received $19.6 million worth of bilateral foreign loans and grants in July 2026 against $118.4 million received in the same month of the last financial year. Out of $19.6 million in bilateral loans and grants, Pakistan received $1.3 million from France, $9.94 million from Germany, $0.94 million from Japan, and $7.42 million from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan has received $252.83 million from multilateral creditors in July 2026 against $379.8 million secured in the same month of the last financial year. Out of the total $252.83 million from multilateral creditors, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) disbursed $59.17 million and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) $6.57 million during July 2026. The World Bank disbursed the largest amount of $130 million in July 2026 on account of IDA lending, and its disbursement through the IBRD stood at $29.22 million.

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) disbursed $1.75 million and short-term financing of $22.71 million during July 2026 in the current fiscal year. The IFAD and the OPEC Fund disbursed $2 million and $0.76 million, respectively, in the first month of the current fiscal year. Through Naya Pakistan Certificates, the country attracted $343.99 million in July 2026 against $196.22 million in the same month of the last financial year. The conventional certificate attracted $97.32 million in July 2026, while the Islamic counterpart secured $246.67 million in funding during the same period.
