A Rs1.43 billion tract of government forest land measuring 24 kanals and 6 marlas in Layyah was allegedly diverted to a private individual through manipulation of revenue records, prompting the district administration to reverse the transfer and order departmental and criminal proceedings against those allegedly involved.

The land, situated on the main MM Road in Chak No. 244/TDA, Fatehpur, was owned and possessed by the Forest Department. The beneficiary, Nasir Ali, is the personal assistant of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Abdul Majeed Khan Niazi. Majeed Niazi's wife is now a Member of the National Assembly.

The matter surfaced after the deputy conservator of forests, Forest Division Layyah, informed the district administration and sought an inquiry. Deputy Commissioner Layyah Asif Ali Dogar directed the assistant commissioner of Karor to examine the relevant revenue record and establish how the state-owned land had been brought into a private claim.

The inquiry found that the land was transferred through Mutation No. 1,382, approved and attested on February 6, 2023, purportedly for adjustment against a private individual's claim. The inquiry concluded that Forest Department land could not be transferred in lieu of a private claim and questioned documents and records produced nearly 50 years after the alleged underlying transaction, finding their legal standing doubtful.
