29th National Assembly Session: Only One Minister Attends All Sittings, Fafen Report

During the 29th National Assembly session, only one federal minister, who is also an MNA, attended all the sittings, while three members - including two federal ministers and one minister of state - did not attend a single sitting. This was highlighted in a Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen) analysis report on National Assembly attendance.

According to the report, the 29th NA session, which comprised eight sittings held between August 17 and August 28, saw 65 out of 332 MPs (20 percent) attending all sittings, while 37 members (11 percent) failed to attend any sitting.

The analysis noted that the fourth sitting recorded the highest attendance with 247 MNAs present (74 percent), whereas the fifth sitting recorded the lowest with 179 MNAs present (54 percent). As many as 267 MNAs (80 percent) missed at least one sitting.

Out of the 26 federal ministers scheduled to participate in the Question Hour, 12 were present on the respective day, while only four out of the eight ministers required to respond to Calling Attention Notices were marked present. Furthermore, the prime minister attended one sitting, whereas the Leader of the Opposition attended seven out of the eight sittings.
