The Minneapolis shooting incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon has left three people dead and four others injured, including three police officers. According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the shooting occurred at the Loring Towers apartment building at 15 East Grant Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. The incident triggered a massive law enforcement and emergency response following a 911 call reporting that a person had been shot. Minneapolis authorities have now identified the primary suspect as 35-year-old Carlton Johnson II, who also died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers were dispatched to the scene at around 4:36 p.m.
Multiple media reports indicate that the suspect had a criminal history and was facing eviction from the apartment complex. Johnson was reportedly a resident on the ninth floor of Loring Towers, having stayed there since March 2025. Following complaints against Johnson for repeatedly brandishing a firearm, the building management had scheduled a hearing for his eviction case on September 11.
According to the management company's complaint, Johnson's tenancy was slated to end in June after he allegedly assaulted another resident, openly displayed a firearm, and issued death threats. Building representatives emphasized that safety protocols were strictly followed throughout the process leading up to the scheduled hearing.
Johnson also had a prior case involving a sibling dating back to 2018, where he was accused of assault but denied the allegations at the time. After pleading guilty to property damage in that case, he spent four days in jail before a judge sentenced him to probation.
