President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on their 79th Independence Day, paying tribute to those who participated in the historic struggle against Dogra rule. "Their courage, sacrifices, and decision to join Pakistan remain an important part of our shared history," he stated.

He recalled that 79 years ago, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan overthrew colonial rule, declared independence, and sought accession to Pakistan from Quaid-i-Azam. The President emphasized that the region's strategic location, natural resources, and border with China make it vital, adding that the government must prioritize infrastructure, healthcare, and energy for its residents.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated the region on its 79th Independence Day, describing November 1 as a symbol of the people's unshakable resolve. He noted that the historic struggle of the region is a proud chapter in national history.

Bilawal highlighted that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan expressed their trust in the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during recent elections, making it the largest party in the region. He reaffirmed that the coalition government led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is committed to translating this public trust into tangible development and prosperity, while continuing to advocate for the rightful entitlements of the local population.

The leadership underscored that the region serves as a gateway for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is essential for the economic stability of the entire country. They noted that the federal government is focused on completing ongoing development projects to ensure that the benefits of progress reach the grassroots level in the mountainous region.

Furthermore, the President and the PPP Chairman both acknowledged the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the liberation movement. They stated that the nation owes a debt of gratitude to the heroes who fought for the region's freedom and its eventual integration with Pakistan.

The government officials reiterated that the constitutional rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan remain a top priority. They promised that the administration would continue to work closely with local representatives to address issues related to education, tourism, and environmental sustainability.

In conclusion, the leaders called upon the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan to play an active role in the nation-building process. They expressed optimism that with continued support and investment, the region would emerge as a model of development and peace in the coming years.

The celebrations across the region were marked by flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural events, reflecting the patriotic spirit of the local population. The day serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted bond between the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and the rest of Pakistan.

As the region looks toward the future, the federal government remains committed to ensuring that the unique identity and cultural heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan are preserved while fostering modern economic growth.
