BTS was forced to cancel one of the most iconic segments of their Arirang World Tour at the first concert in São Paulo at the very last minute, leaving fans disappointed. Despite the setback, BTS members were determined to make this a memorable experience, performing the full choreography for IDOL rather than the parade.
This was the first time in years fans saw the group set the stage alight with their high-energy routine for the song. "I still cannot get over this IDOL choreo, look at them," one fan wrote.
Another gushed on X, "So obsessed with that IDOL performance, I have seen it 100 million times." Some fans predicted that since this was a last-minute decision, the members had only minutes to rehearse, yet their muscle memory remained sharp. While there is no official statement from HYBE or the BTS spokesperson, fans claimed the change was due to safety concerns.
Reports suggest the group was informed of a security issue 15 minutes before the show due to overcrowding. Some fans claimed that ticketing company LiveNation had oversold tickets, forcing attendees to sit on stairs or adjust on the main floor, while some genuine ticketholders were locked out.
Given the dangerous crowd density, the change was made for the safety of the members and fans. The decision to pivot to a full dance performance instead of the planned parade allowed the group to maintain control of the stage while keeping the audience engaged.
The energy in the arena remained electric despite the logistical hurdles. BTS has long been praised for their ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, and this performance in São Paulo served as a testament to their professionalism.
Local authorities and event organizers are currently reviewing the ticketing protocols to ensure such overcrowding does not occur in future tour stops. Fans have expressed their support for the group's decision, emphasizing that safety remains the top priority.
As the Arirang World Tour continues, the focus remains on delivering high-quality entertainment while ensuring the well-being of the global fanbase. The band is expected to address the incident in upcoming press briefings.
For now, the viral clips of the IDOL performance continue to circulate, serving as a reminder of the group's dedication to their craft even under pressure.
