Carrot Top jokes about suicide attempt in 'emotional' 1st show back

Carrot Top has returned to the stage for the first time since his hospitalisation following a reported suicide attempt. The 61-year-old stand-up comedian received a standing ovation as he resumed his Las Vegas residency at the Luxor hotel, according to fan-captured footage.

"God bless my fans and my family, my mom, my brother, and everybody here tonight," he told the crowd. He then remarked that he had been "trying to figure out what is appropriate for a night like this," before pulling out a noose.

"So I figured this would probably not be appropriate," he joked as he put the prop away. News broke on 18 September that the comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, had been hospitalised following an alleged suicide attempt.

According to TMZ, Thompson was found unresponsive in his Las Vegas home due to a suspected overdose. On 18 October, he broke his silence by thanking fans in a heartfelt Instagram post.

"I'm truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I've received over the past couple of weeks," he wrote alongside a picture of himself on stage. "Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know.

While I haven't been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I've felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart." The comedian's return marks a significant milestone in his recovery process following the alarming incident.

Friends and industry peers have continuously expressed their relief over his successful recovery and health improvement. Ticket sales for his upcoming performances have seen a noticeable surge following the widespread media coverage of his return.

Organizers at the venue implemented extra security and medical standby measures as a precaution for his opening night. Fans from various states traveled specifically to witness his comeback performance and show solidarity during this difficult phase.

Social media platforms were flooded with positive reviews and supportive messages praising his resilience and humor. Industry analysts believe that addressing his personal struggles through comedy is a therapeutic mechanism for the veteran entertainer.

Carrot Top concluded his performance by promising his audience a full schedule of upcoming shows for the rest of the year.
