Dalton Knecht made a strong impression in his debut game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. Knecht made the most of his debut, contributing to the reigning champion New York Knicks as they routed the Bulls with a 135-105 win.
Knecht finished the night with 10 points in 16 productive minutes as a substitute. He made 4 of his 16 field goal attempts, hit two three-pointers, and contributed seven rebounds, an assist, and a block.
His first basket in a Knicks jersey, wearing No. 1, sent the entire Madison Square Garden crowd into a frenzy. The debutant slammed home a dunk right after grabbing an offensive rebound, further fueling the Knicks' dominant display.
Speaking in a postgame locker room interview, Knecht said, "I wasn't surprised; I just came in ready to go. The coaches said you're active, so that just means be ready." Following an impressive all-around debut, Knecht wanted to prove that his talent goes beyond shooting ability.
"I think I can go out there and impact the game at all three levels. I just want to show what I can do on the other side of the ball, applying pressure and grabbing defensive rebounds," the determined Knecht told reporters.
Knecht joined the Knicks in late October after he was released by the Los Angeles Lakers (L.A. Lakers).
The transition has been seamless, with the coaching staff praising his quick adaptation to the team's defensive schemes and offensive flow. The atmosphere at Madison Square Garden was electric, as fans welcomed the new addition with loud cheers throughout the second half.
The Knicks' bench depth proved vital in maintaining the lead against a struggling Bulls side. This victory marks a significant momentum shift for the Knicks as they look to defend their title.
The team's chemistry appears to be improving with every game, and Knecht's versatility adds a new dimension to their rotation. Following this rout, the Knicks are set for a road matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
Analysts expect Knecht to see increased minutes if he continues to perform at this level. The team management expressed satisfaction with the roster adjustments made during the mid-season window, noting that the integration of new players like Knecht is crucial for the long-term goals of the franchise.
