Gary Glitter, a former pop star of the early 70s, has pleaded not guilty to child sexual abuse charges at a London court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The 82-year-old rock star, whose real name is Paul Gadd, entered his plea through a video link from HMP Channing Wood at Southwark Crown Court. Glitter has been charged with four counts of sexually assaulting a minor over four decades ago. Glitter is facing a total of eight allegations of sexual abuse against a minor, including four counts of indecent assault, two of indecency with a child, and two of sexual activity with a girl under 13, allegedly committed between 1978 and 1981.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the allegations were first reported to the service in January 2025. Tony Baumgartner, the judge at Southwark Crown Court, adjourned the hearing for a three-week trial that is set to begin on November 22, 2027. During his court appearance, Glitter appeared on the court monitor from a prison in Devon, England, wearing a grey jacket and hat, and confirmed his identity before a clerk outlined the charges and asked for his pleas.

Glitter was a leading name in the glam rock era that was buzzing in the early 1970s and also included iconic artists like David Bowie.

Legal proceedings are expected to continue over the coming months as both the prosecution and defense prepare their cases for the trial scheduled in late 2027.
