Future King William faces anger of locals after taking drastic decision

King Charles recently expressed confidence in his son, Prince William, to take the reins of the monarchy when the time is right. However, not everyone is happy with how the Prince of Wales is handling matters, as William received an upsetting update from his private estate.

Following the ascension of Charles, the Duchy of Cornwall was inherited by William. Given his plans to reform his administration, the Duchy is undergoing significant changes.

The estate had long taken pride in its royal connection, but last month, eviction notices were served to tenants. Farmers and renters, who believed they could stay in their properties for life, have been given six months to either buy their homes or leave.

The reaction from locals has been harsh, as residents feel betrayed and fear homelessness. People draw attention to the irony of Prince William talking about his concern for mental health and homelessness while at the same time badly affecting the mental health of people who live and work here, potentially making families homeless, said Mary Ryan, a resident, via The Observer.

The sale is being handled by local land agent Sworders. Farmers claim that the Duchy valuations are, on average, 30% higher than market rates, with some prices even more inflated.

Moreover, farmers who had previously invested hundreds of thousands of pounds have been asked to pay more to buy their homes. Tenants are being offered a discount of between 10% and 20%, which they believe amounts to being double-charged to keep their homes.

Tenants are being told take it or leave it, according to one local. I've been a royalist all my life and I think Charles was fantastic.

William can go to hell. If he was on fire, I wouldn't pour water on it.

The ongoing controversy has put the royal family in a difficult spot as public scrutiny increases over estate management and financial dealings. Critics argue that such high-pressure tactics contradict the charitable and community-focused image that senior royals frequently project in public engagements.

As the deadline approaches, local communities and tenant unions are planning further peaceful protests to demand a fair review of the property valuations and extended leasing options.
