Gerard Way just made it official: My Chemical Romance will start working on new music next year. During the rock band's Hollywood Bowl concert on Friday, October 30, their frontman confirmed that their next album will arrive at the latest by 2028.
'Next year, we wanna go make a record,' he told the crowd per fan-captured footage. According to Way, MCR will spend the next year in the studio and resume touring in 2028.
'Hopefully, we'll see you guys in 2028,' he teased. 'Just know that, like, we've kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope life allows us to do that,' he said at the time, telling fans that they 'deserve another record' for their never-ending support.
The group - consisting of brothers Gerard and Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Frank Iero - broke up in 2013 but got the band back together in 2019. Since then, they've been touring and have yet to release another album following 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
Their only new release since then has been the 2022 single The Foundations of Decay. Music industry analysts note that this announcement has generated massive excitement among global fans who have waited over a decade for a full-length follow-up project.
Social media platforms have been flooded with reactions from loyal supporters expressing joy and anticipation for the upcoming recording sessions. The band's reunion in 2019 sparked immense enthusiasm, leading to sold-out arena shows across multiple continents and proving their enduring popularity.
As preparations begin for the studio sessions, fans continue to speculate about the musical direction and thematic elements of the upcoming record. Further details regarding the exact release dates and tracklists are expected to be announced by the management team in the coming months.
