'Glee' reboot gets green light as Lea Michele, Jane Lynch express interest

A Glee reboot is officially in the works, bringing the beloved musical series back more than a decade after its finale. Disney+ and Hulu announced on Wednesday, October 21, that the Ryan Murphy-created show has been picked up for a new series, following months of speculation about its return.

The original show premiered in 2009 and ran for six seasons before ending in 2015. Its ensemble cast included Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer and Darren Criss, among others.

Ryan Murphy also said he had contacted around 10 original cast members, who were enthusiastic about the possibility. Michele, who starred as Rachel Berry, expressed her interest in returning, telling E!

News last month, "I love Glee. I will always love Glee.

The show just holds such a special place in my heart. So, I will follow Ryan wherever he goes."

Jane Lynch, who played cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, also shared her enthusiasm during her appearance on a podcast in September: "I haven't heard anything about that, but I'd be the first in line to do it." The production team is currently finalizing the script and scheduling, with fans eagerly awaiting news on which original characters will return to the halls of McKinley High.

The reboot aims to capture the same musical magic that defined the original series while introducing a new generation of performers. The original series was widely praised for its diverse cast and its willingness to tackle complex social issues through music and drama.

It became a cultural phenomenon, spawning numerous chart-topping soundtracks and concert tours. The return of the show is expected to be a major draw for streaming platforms, as nostalgia for 2010s television continues to drive viewership trends across the industry.

While the new series will likely feature a mix of returning favorites and new faces, the core spirit of the show remains a priority for the creative team led by Murphy. Sadly, original cast members Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, and Mark Salling have since passed away, leaving a void that the production team acknowledges with deep respect as they move forward with the project.

Further details regarding the release date and episode count are expected to be announced in the coming months as the project moves into active development.
