Model and entrepreneur Hailey Bieber has revealed that she struggled with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after the birth of her son, Jack Blues, saying that open conversation helps make it less of a lonely journey. The Rhode founder, who is married to pop singer Justin Bieber, told WWD that the condition affected her after Jack was born in August 2024.
After I had my son, I struggled with PMDD a bit, and there is just not a lot of conversation or research around it, she said. Bieber explained why she chose to speak out, saying that talking about it helps people feel less alone and makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.
The comments follow other health revelations she made on the Therapuss podcast earlier this year. She said she had a mini stroke in 2022, adding that a couple of years ago, she had a crazy medical situation.
She also explained that she was born with a heart defect, a patent foramen ovale, which required surgery carried out through the groin. She was able to go in and out of hospital on the same day.
The experience left her feeling hyper aware of her body, she said, and contributed to her anxiety during and after the medical procedures. Bieber says her interest in health and medicine helped inspire her beauty brand, Rhode.
The company has pledged $5 million to the Foundation for Women's Health over three years to support vital research into women's health issues. She later sold Rhode to e.l.f.
Beauty in 2025 for $1 billion in a major business transaction that marked a significant milestone for her entrepreneurial career and her ongoing philanthropic commitments globally. The celebrity couple continues to share parts of their lives with fans, balancing their high-profile careers in music and fashion with family life while raising their young son.
Medical experts have praised public figures like Bieber for bringing attention to less-discussed conditions such as PMDD, noting that increased awareness encourages more women to seek timely medical help and psychological support. As she moves forward with new business ventures and health advocacy, Hailey Bieber remains dedicated to using her massive platform to support women's wellness initiatives across the globe.
