Matthew Perry's sister is finally ready to speak about the late Friends star in a new Netflix documentary. Titled The One About Matthew Perry - a reference to how Friends formatted its episode titles - the three-part documentary premieres October 27, one day before Perry's third death anniversary. It is directed and executive produced by Mary Robertson, whose recent credentials include Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
According to Netflix, the series features intimate accounts from Perry's family and friends as they remember his humour, generosity, struggles, and the person he was away from the spotlight. Mia Perry Bowick - one of Perry's five siblings - shared, "It's taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life - to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction."
She continued, "As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be, and the work to which I've devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind."
Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, at age 54. His death was ruled an accident, with the medical examiner citing the acute effects of ketamine as the primary cause, alongside other contributing factors. Five people were arrested and charged in relation to his death.
