Filming for Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler's new movie Miami Vice '85 took an unexpected turn after a man allegedly threatened a crew member with a knife in Brooklyn, New York.
The incident reportedly happened late on Friday, October 23. According to media reports, a 23-year-old man named Alex Perez entered the filming area and got into a heated argument with a 43-year-old member of the production crew.
Things became significantly more serious when Perez allegedly pulled a large butcher knife from his sweatshirt pocket. Footage shared from the scene reportedly showed a production worker safely leading him away from the area before the situation escalated further.
Local law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene promptly and arrested Perez at around 11:17 pm. Officers also confiscated the knife used in the alleged threat as vital evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the cast or crew during the incident. However, the situation still temporarily affected the movie's rigorous production schedule, as filming had to be halted for the remainder of the night.
Perez was subsequently charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities confirmed there is no report suggesting that lead actors Jordan or Butler were directly involved in or harmed by the incident.
The high-profile movie is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, widely known for his work on blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick and F1. In this highly anticipated project, Jordan plays the iconic detective Ricardo Tubbs.
Meanwhile, Austin Butler takes on the pivotal role of his partner, Sonny Crockett, bringing a fresh dynamic to the classic crime drama franchise. Miami Vice '85 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on May 19, 2028, with fans eagerly awaiting further updates from the set.
Production teams are expected to enhance security measures around all upcoming outdoor locations in New York to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the massive project.
