The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights on Monday expressed grave concern over the poor performance of law enforcement agencies in preventing and investigating cases of rape and sexual harassment. The committee also expressed annoyance over the alleged failure to bring the perpetrators of the brutal killings of Hina Javed and Ayat Noor to justice, as well as the harassment case involving Dr Ayesha, and directed the Ministry of Interior to pursue the cases effectively.

The committee, which met at Parliament House under the chairpersonship of Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, was briefed on the progress of investigations into the two murder cases and the harassment case. It directed local parliamentarians from the areas where the incidents occurred to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to ensure transparent investigations.

The committee further directed government functionaries to take stringent measures to ensure the effective implementation of laws and establish proper coordination with ministries and departments responsible for protecting human rights. It stressed that improved interdepartmental liaison was essential to producing the desired results, according to the committee's proceedings.

Concluding the session, members of the committee emphasized that zero tolerance must be adopted against crimes targeting women and vulnerable citizens. They maintained that accountability within the police and administrative ranks is critical to restoring public trust and delivering swift justice to grieving families across the country.
