Pakistan Retaliates After Afghan Taliban Open Fire On Border Posts In South Waziristan

Pakistani security forces launched retaliatory strikes against multiple Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions, and defensive installations after coming under unprovoked fire in South Waziristan's Angoor Adda area, the deputy commissioner said on Sunday. In a post on X, the Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner stated that Afghan forces had continued firing on Pakistani border positions.

He noted that Pakistani security forces responded swiftly, targeting several Afghan border posts, mortar positions, and defensive installations. The deputy commissioner added that Afghan Taliban personnel were forced to abandon their posts and flee following the strong response.

He confirmed that no casualties were reported in Pakistani border areas so far, adding that security forces remain prepared to respond to any form of aggression. This exchange follows an incident on the night of 27 October, when Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire on civilian houses and Angoor Adda Bazaar.

One civilian was killed and 5 others were injured when a mortar shell struck a residential house. Several shops were also damaged in the shelling.

In response, security forces launched an operation, destroying multiple Afghan Taliban checkposts. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting subsequently stated that Pakistani forces had destroyed 7 Afghan Taliban posts.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent militant groups, particularly the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. The border region remains a flashpoint for tensions between the two neighbors.

Pakistan has consistently maintained that the Afghan interim government must ensure that its soil is not utilized by militants to conduct cross-border terrorism. The recent escalation highlights the fragility of the security situation along the Pak-Afghan border.

Local administration officials have increased surveillance in the Angoor Adda sector to prevent further incursions. Security analysts suggest that the swift response by Pakistani forces is intended to deter future provocations and maintain the sanctity of the international border.

The government of Pakistan continues to engage in diplomatic channels to resolve these border issues, yet it remains firm on its policy of zero tolerance for any violation of its sovereignty. The military leadership has reiterated that the defense of the country's borders is the top priority.

Residents in the border areas have expressed concern over the recurring skirmishes, which disrupt daily life and trade. Authorities are working to restore normalcy while keeping the security apparatus on high alert to ensure the safety of the local population.

As the situation develops, the international community remains watchful of the regional dynamics. Pakistan's stance remains clear: peace and stability in the region are contingent upon the Afghan authorities taking concrete actions against the TTP and other extremist elements operating from their side of the border.
