President Zardari Calls for Research-Driven Health Reforms

President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated the urgent need to adopt research-based and technologically driven solutions to improve healthcare services across Pakistan. During a high-level meeting with executives from Siemens Healthineers, the President emphasized that modernizing the medical infrastructure is a top priority for the current administration to ensure quality care for the citizens.

The President stated that Pakistan highly values the German industrial, technological, and infrastructural support provided by global organizations like Siemens. The company has maintained a consistent physical presence in Pakistan for several decades, currently employing over 100 professionals across three major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

Siemens Executive Vice President Daniel Frisch and Head of Government Affairs Veronika Pfister called on the President in Berlin on Saturday. The delegation briefed the President on their ongoing projects and future roadmap for the South Asian market, highlighting their commitment to enhancing medical diagnostic capabilities in the region.

The delegation informed the President that their representatives would soon visit Pakistan to sign formal Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with local partners. These agreements are expected to focus on capacity building, training of medical staff, and the introduction of advanced technological tools in the healthcare industry.

President Zardari suggested that Siemens should diversify its investment portfolio across other social and industrial sectors in Pakistan. He encouraged the firm to leverage its internationally established competencies to help modernize Pakistan's broader economic landscape, particularly in the energy and digital infrastructure sectors.

The President assured the delegation of full institutional cooperation and facilitation through the platform of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). He noted that the SIFC is specifically designed to remove bureaucratic hurdles for foreign investors, ensuring a smooth entry into the Pakistani market.

The meeting also served as a platform to discuss the broader bilateral relations between Pakistan and Germany. Both sides expressed a desire to strengthen economic ties, with the President inviting more German companies to explore the untapped potential within Pakistan's growing economy.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, and Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Memon and Jam Khan Shoro were present during the deliberations. Their participation underscores the provincial government's interest in integrating these technological advancements into local health systems.

Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany, Salman Sharif, also attended the meeting, facilitating the dialogue between the state officials and the corporate delegation. The Ambassador noted that such high-level engagements are vital for attracting foreign direct investment and fostering long-term partnerships.

As the meeting concluded, both parties expressed optimism regarding the upcoming visit of the Siemens technical team. The initiative is seen as a significant step toward bridging the gap in medical technology and improving the overall standard of public health services in Pakistan.
