Visa Resumption Puts Pak-UAE Ties Back On Track

The trajectory of ties between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has returned to its decade-old pattern, as the issuance of online visas to Pakistani nationals has resumed its previous pace. Highly placed diplomatic sources stated that the Pakistanis deported from the UAE were involved in offenses related to regional conflict and aggression against the UAE.

The UAE government, adopting a lenient approach, did not imprison or prosecute them but instead directed them to leave the country. Sources indicated that, like other expatriates, Pakistani immigrants have now fully grasped the sensitivity of the matter.

Consequently, no Pakistani has been forced to leave the UAE in recent weeks. Sources recalled that currently, 2.2 million Pakistanis are working in the UAE, and the number of those deported was approximately 3,500 over several months.

The sources noted that the new UAE ambassador, Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, has played a constructive role in improving ties between the two brotherly countries. Pakistan and the UAE maintain a long-standing strategic, economic, and cultural partnership dating back to the establishment of the UAE in 1971, built on deep ties in trade, defense, and a vibrant diaspora.

Regarding the diaspora, sources said that Pakistanis send billions of dollars in annual remittances that support Pakistan's economy. Trade between the two nations hovers around $8 billion, spanning energy, consumer goods, and real estate investments.

The UAE-Pakistan Assistance Programme has funded major infrastructure, healthcare, and education projects, particularly following natural disasters in Pakistan. Diplomatic observers suggest that this normalization is a testament to the resilience of the bilateral relationship.

Both nations have consistently prioritized mutual interests, ensuring that minor administrative hurdles do not overshadow the broader strategic cooperation. The resumption of visa services is expected to boost tourism and business travel, further strengthening the people-to-people contact that forms the backbone of the Pak-UAE friendship.

As both nations look toward the future, the focus remains on enhancing economic corridors and exploring new avenues for investment in technology and sustainable energy sectors. The Pakistani government has expressed its appreciation for the UAE's continued support, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining regional stability and fostering closer cooperation with its Gulf partners.
