The Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is expanding its call link feature to allow users to connect with others even if they do not have an account. According to WABetaInfo, participants will be able to join via a secure web link without needing to install the application. The host will have the ability to manually approve every guest before they join the call.
The feature is currently under development and not yet available for public testing. With this update, hosts can generate a call link from the Calls tab, select the call type, and copy the link. Recipients can open the link via a web browser without creating an account, continuing as guests.
The link opens the interface on WhatsApp Web, maintaining the platform's standard end-to-end encryption and security standards for all participants.
Tech analysts believe this move will significantly increase user engagement and bridge the gap between app users and non-users for quick virtual meetings.
