An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked by at least one wolf at a wildlife park in Brandenburg, south of Berlin, zoo officials confirmed. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 28, during a special children's event at the Johannismühle Wildlife Park, according to Teltow-Fläming district authorities.
A zookeeper intervened to prevent further attacks on two other children present in the Arctic wolf enclosure during the shocking morning incident. The young victim was swiftly airlifted by an emergency medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for specialized surgical and trauma treatment.
German newspaper Bild reported that the girl sustained significant and deep head injuries that required immediate medical attention from specialists. The incident took place before the park's official 10:00 opening time, strongly suggesting that the victim was participating in an exclusive private tour.
Local police and wildlife authorities have temporarily closed the entire facility in Baruth/Mark pending a thorough and comprehensive safety investigation. This shocking event marks the first officially reported wolf attack inside a German wildlife park since the protected species naturally reappeared in the country in 1998.
A separate concerning incident involving a wolf attack on an adult woman in Hamburg was also widely reported earlier this year across European media. Following safety reviews and structural modifications, the wildlife park is currently scheduled to reopen for public visitors on November 2, 2026.
