The woman arrested for allegedly attempting to set Youngstown City Hall on fire has been identified by local law enforcement authorities. Jasmina Gurley, 41, is officially charged with aggravated arson, which is classified as a second-degree felony under state laws, according to Mahoning County Jail records.
According to the Youngstown Police Department, Gurley was taken into custody in connection with the alarming incident that occurred at City Hall on Wednesday night. The incident took place during a scheduled Youngstown City Council meeting on the sixth floor on Wednesday, October 21, when council members were expected to discuss a potential data centre coming to the city.
Youngstown police officials described that the suspect was deeply upset about the potential data centre project, prompting her actions outside the municipal building. Investigators stated that she threw liquid from a gas can and a water bottle outside the building and subsequently set the flammable liquid on fire.
Police officers stationed at the scene said that Gurley still had the lighter in her possession when she was confronted by law enforcement personnel. She was swiftly subdued with a taser, according to the official police report filed following the chaotic situation at the municipal offices.
Fortunately, the resulting fire was quickly extinguished before causing catastrophic structural damage, and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to thoroughly probe the incident. Gurley is scheduled to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court for her formal arraignment on Friday, October 23, 2026, as the judicial proceedings move forward.
