Aurangzeb Discusses Macroeconomic Stability and Investment-Led Growth with World Bank Group

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held a high-level meeting with senior World Bank (WB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) officials on Friday to discuss Pakistan's comprehensive economic reform agenda. The dialogue focused on the critical transition from stabilization to sustainable growth, alongside priorities for strengthening investment and private-sector activity across the country.

The WB delegation was led by Sandeep Mahajan, Regional Practice Director for the Prosperity Vertical for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAAP). He was accompanied by Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar and IFC Division Director Simon Andrews, according to an official news release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

During the session, Mahajan congratulated Pakistan on successfully restoring macroeconomic stability. He specifically commended the government's effective management of recent economic crises arising from regional conflicts.

He noted that the buffers built through rigorous stabilization efforts and timely policy responses have significantly helped Pakistan manage external financial pressures. The WB representatives emphasized the paramount importance of sustaining these hard-won gains through continued structural reforms and effective implementation.

They highlighted that long-term economic health depends on the consistency of these policies. Minister Aurangzeb emphasized that the government's primary objective is to make macroeconomic stability durable and translate it into sustainable growth and investment-led exports.

He noted that the administration is committed to creating an environment where the private sector can thrive as the primary engine of the national economy. "Pakistan has regained access to international capital markets, including through its recent US$3 billion Eurobond issuance with 5-year and 10-year maturities," the minister noted.

He stated that this reflects growing international confidence in the country's fiscal trajectory. He also stressed the need to achieve further credit rating upgrades, build investor confidence, and improve Pakistan's global standing.

The minister underscored that attracting foreign direct investment is a cornerstone of the current economic strategy. Aurangzeb discussed the importance of a credible transition framework that sustains fiscal discipline, addresses external-sector vulnerabilities, and strengthens the foundations for private sector-led, responsible, and sustainable growth.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue close coordination between the government and the World Bank Group to ensure that the reform agenda remains on track and delivers tangible benefits to the national economy. Both sides expressed optimism regarding the future outlook of Pakistan's economy, provided that the current momentum of reforms is maintained with the same level of dedication and strategic oversight.
