Cameron Boozer, the 2026 No. 3 draft pick, has become just the 5th teenager in National Basketball Association (NBA) history to record a triple-double, contributing to Memphis moving to a 5-0 record. While Jerome saw his performance dip after averaging 29.8 points and 6.5 assists per game for the Grizzlies, the team relied on other phenomenal talents like Boozer, who was the standout in the win against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Boozer delivered a headline-grabbing performance on Thursday night in a 124-103 victory. He scored the first triple-double of his career, finishing with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists in only 28 minutes of play.
The young star demonstrated exceptional court vision and physical dominance throughout the contest. Boozer faced some of the league's strongest defenders, including Donovan, Clingan, and Toumani Camara.
His latest feat makes him the youngest forward to ever score a triple-double, surpassing a record set by LeBron James years before Boozer was even born. The achievement highlights his rapid transition to professional basketball.
Boozer is the second-youngest player overall to achieve a triple-double, trailing only Josh Giddey, who set the mark at 19 years and 84 days old on December 12, 2022. Compared to 'King' James, Boozer beat the record by 282 days; James set his record at 20 years and 20 days, while Boozer smashed it at 19 years and 103 days.
The Memphis Grizzlies organization has expressed immense pride in Boozer's development. Coaches noted that his ability to impact the game beyond scoring - specifically through his rebounding and playmaking - is rare for a player of his age.
This victory solidifies Memphis as a top contender early in the season. Analysts suggest that if Boozer maintains this trajectory, he could become a cornerstone for the franchise for the next decade.
His performance against the Trail Blazers serves as a benchmark for what fans can expect as he continues to adjust to the intensity of the professional league. The basketball community has been buzzing with comparisons between Boozer and other legendary figures.
While he remains humble about his success, the statistics speak for themselves. His efficiency in limited minutes is particularly impressive, suggesting that he has the stamina and focus required for long-term success.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Boozer to see if he can maintain this level of consistency. The Grizzlies are scheduled to face tougher opponents in the coming weeks, which will provide a true test of the young forward's capabilities.
For now, the record-breaking night stands as a milestone in his young career. By eclipsing a legend like LeBron James, Boozer has firmly announced his arrival on the biggest stage in basketball.
The team remains focused on their next matchup, aiming to extend their undefeated streak. With Boozer leading the charge, the Grizzlies look like a formidable force in the Western Conference.
